kin·dom camp is an opportunity for LBGTQIA+ youth ages 12-17 to come and experience a week of affirmation, celebration, and FUN! kin•dom camp will include plenty of "traditional" camp activities and recreation, plus some specialized programming to incorporate activities and conversations around mental health, yoga and embodiment, and LGBTQIA+ history and culture. While kin•dom community is a spiritual community, camp is a space where faith-related activities are opt-in only. There is no expectation of faith, and we don't want faith (or unbelief) to be a barrier. This camp is affirming. Full stop. It affirms all genders, sexualities, identities, religious backgrounds, and varieties of belief. The only thing we expect is a commitment to welcoming and celebrating everyone where they are, as they are.

kin•dom is a queer-led spiritual community. That being said, we recognize the pain and hurt that the church has caused many members of the LGBTQIA+ community. kin•dom works to dismantle prejudices within the church and begin to heal the harm done. Our host camp in Texas is a Validated Gluten-Free Safe Spot through the Gluten-Free Food Service Program. This means it is a safe facility for those with celiac disease and other gluten intolerances. In addition, the camp kitchen can accommodate any dietary needs as long as adequate notice is given.
The word “kin•dom” offers a new way of imagining the full inclusion and belonging of all people. It is a word that offers an alternative to "kingdom" and allows a more expansive view of how we are all connected. It moves beyond dynamics of power and oppression, and invites us all to see the ways we are interconnected and made better together. The word was originally brought forth by theologian Ada Maria Isasi Diaz, who used the word to speak about the liberation that God hoped for all people. This camp is a direct part of kin-dom community, and there is no greater vision we can imagine for LBGTQIA+ youth than for them to know that they belong, that they are loved, and that they are free and safe to be their whole selves.

This year's theme encourages us to lean into expression as an act of courage, resistance, resilience, and celebration. The world doesn't always have space for all the different ways we can express who we are, so we are excited to welcome campers for a week of self-expression through art, conversation, nature, and connection!
